“It’s too hard to get a job in San Francisco or anywhere,” said Tahira Sheikh, a MatchBridge referral. “You make your resume, deliver it to them and go and wait and wait. It’s too hard to get a job, but if you find these kinds of a people, it helps you a lot.”
The employment referral services MatchBridge provides made a difference for Tahira, who’s first experience with the program began when she was offered a one month opportunity at the McKesson Corporation.
“I was so excited. It’s a billion dollar company and it’s so nice working with them. I went there, I did the job and they liked my work. I stayed on passed a month. They gave me a position for six months and also an internship. That really helped me.”
Tahira’s McKesson experience helped prepare her for a second job referral to Degenkolb Engineers where she continued her pattern of hard work.

“We’re thrilled with her,” said Carolyn Peters, Administrative Staff at Degenkolb.
“She’s highly enthusiastic. She makes a great effort to go out to the entire staff. She really is interested in doing her job right. She’s very interested in getting some toe-hold into the computer/IT phase of the company. And she’s diligent about working towards those goals.”
“From our experience we’ve had a terrific response with MatchBridge,” said Peters. “They sent us a qualified candidate. They have good follow-up. They were interested in what our needs were so that they would have a good match for what we needed and what they were sending. And they knew what the student needed. It’s a win-win for both sides.”

The experience opened important doors for Tahira Shaikh, helping her gain access to San Francisco’s competitive job market, and getting her career off to a great start.
“If you have a degree, if you have everything, but you don’t have the confidence to say ‘okay, I’m going to do it. I’m the perfect match for this job’ – you can’t do it,” Shaikh said. “So you need the support. Not from your family but from special people like this who really help.”
