After leaving a difficult home life in Seattle, Nate Corbray was facing homelessness in San Francisco. He approached Larkin Street Youth Services, a MatchBridge Youth Access Point partner. The agency helped Nate find transitional housing, and connected him with MatchBridge staff, who interviewed Nate and referred him to the Bi-Rite Gourmet Market.

“In this city where it’s expensive to live, it’s sometimes hard to fill entry level positions with someone you can trust and that’s qualified,” said Simon Richard, Bi-Rite Produce Manager. “We can only learn so much through the interview process. This program was the first opportunity for us to actually branch off and do work with another organization that’s trying to find the right fit for young people who want to learn,” Richard said.

Nate worked in the produce department at Bi-Rite, a job which made it possible for him to move into a new apartment, and live independently. He has since moved on to another job, but expressed gratitude for the connections offered by Larkin Street Youth Services and MatchBridge. “I didn’t know that working at a place like Bi-Rite could be so powerful and have so much of an effect on my life, Corbray said. If it wasn’t for MatchBridge staff, I wouldn’t be as grateful as I am now.”
