Why should you have a separate, professional sounding email address? What is an impressive way to follow-up with employers about job openings? How casual is too casual when it comes to work attire?
Thanks to a two day MatchBridge workshop in February 2009 at United Way offices, these young girls from Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) are better prepared. They now know that things that can make the difference between getting a job or being overlooked – starting a job and keeping one.

“They are helping us with the soft skills, those communications skills, behavioral skills – just how to be in the workplace and how to act professional,” said Jonathan Wang, ICA Corporate Work Study Manager.
“They are just really life skills that any employee could use, much less a 16 year old who has not experience in the workplace yet,” Wang said. “I have worked in Human Resources for many years, hiring and training people. Frankly these are skills I wish my adult employees had.”
“We are partnering with MatchBridge to help teach the girls communications skills, first impression skills, how to dress skills” said Anne Odea, ICA Development Director. “The experience is very valuable for our girls because we are preparing them for the future.”
